Community Parent Education Program (COPE)
COPE is a large group parenting course for parents of children aged 3 to 6. It is designed to improve child management skills, improve family functioning, as well as build and strengthen personal networks.
Parents can learn skills to increase positive behaviour, avoid conflicts, encourage cooperation and respond to aggression from their child, and connect with other parents to talk about common problems. Parents have often been invited to attend COPE while waiting for an ongoing service partner from Children First. Other parents have learned child behaviour management skills or improved their parenting abilities as part of their ongoing service.
COPE groups are also being offered to parents in the community at local OEYC.
